South Cumberland Community Fund has received a grant from the TN Dept of Health in its Healthy Built Environment Program. The grant has allowed us to hold community design meetings in communities along the Mountain Goat Trail Corridor to plan how this resource can best benefit the people of the South Cumberland Plateau. We looked at parks, housing, access to the trail, transportation, potential businesses, as well as the unique features of each community.
The participation of our communities has been crucial. Over the past few weeks, we have hosted five meetings in the communities along the corridor of the MGT. We have heard great ideas for fostering better health on the plateau, from grocery stores in small communities to recreation centers and renovated and safer parks.
Soon, we will have a draft health equity plan to share with our neighbors and get more impact on our shared healthy built environment.
